What's included with rental?

Brand new 2025 Yamaha VX Deluxe(s) · Rental Boat Safety Checklist · 1 safety kit (flashlight, whistle, 15m buoyant heaving line, bailing bucket) · 2 bumpers for tying to docks · Safety briefing & operating instructions. You start with a full tank — you fill upon returning.

Launch locations (meet us here to ride) and where to fill for gas

Water locations for wave runner rentals are on the Big Rideau Lake at two locations: 11 Water Street, Portland, ON K0G 1V0 (beside the Galley Restaurant), and Rideau Ferry, Drummond/North Elmsley, Ontario (Rideau Ferry boat launch, located off Yacht Club Rd).

It is required to check in 30 minutes before your ride time to review the mandatory operator's licence/permit, safety briefing, and operating instructions. During the summer months we run a very busy schedule — if you are running late for your scheduled appointment, you can only ride for the remaining amount of time. This is a firm policy, so please arrive on time.

When returning the wave runners it is REQUIRED to fill the machines back up to full. The location to do so is Lens Cove Marina, adjacent to the boat launch. Gas is available at Lens Cove Marina, Bayview Marina and Rideau Ferry Harbour on the Big Rideau.

Mileage charge (where applicable)

Open for delivery, but we charge $2/km each way for both pickup and delivery to locations not listed above.

Age & eligibility requirements

The renter must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Ontario driver's licence (G2, G, M2) or Pleasure Craft Operator Card to operate the wave runner. Equivalent out-of-province or international driver's licences are also accepted. A valid driver's licence must be presented prior to rental. Passengers do not need a driver's licence. Any other participant operating (driving) the watercraft must be a minimum of 21 years of age and must be listed on the rental agreement. Transport Canada requires that all pleasure craft operators carry a boating licence.

Suggested items to take along

Sunscreen · Sunglasses (with a floating strap) · Plastic bottle(s) of water · Snacks · Cell phone (mandatory in case of emergency on the water). Fin Freaks Wave Runner Rentals is not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage of personal items you choose to take along.

Damage / security deposit

A $1,500 damage/security deposit hold is required for each rental wave runner. Upon return, a full damage inspection will be completed with staff and your security deposit will be returned in full immediately if the vessel(s) are returned without damages. Customers are responsible for vessel(s) and all equipment supplied during the rental period. Every unit will undergo a damage inspection with Fin Freaks staff prior to and after your rental; the renter must be present at the time of inspection. Renters are responsible for any and all damages sustained to rental equipment, persons, or property during the rental period. A rental contract and release of liability, waiver of claims, assumption of risks and indemnity agreement must be signed by all renters and participants 21 years and older. The damage deposit does not limit the renter's liability in the case of a severe or total loss.

Cancellation & refund policy

Cancellations made anytime over 48 hours prior to the rental date are only eligible for a 50% refund. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the rental date will forfeit the full rental payment. No-shows are charged in full for the rental period reserved and the contract will be terminated after 1 hour from the time agreed. Fin Freaks Wave Runner Rentals reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or void reservations at any time for policy violations, severe weather, or to ensure the personal safety of the operator(s) if they are incapable of operating the craft safely.

Weather policy

Fin Freaks Wave Runner Rentals has the right to refuse rentals in the event of a weather situation that would pose a risk to renters. This could include limiting the rental agreement to a geographic area or daypart, or full postponement. Conditions for weather postponement include wind speeds or gusts greater than 14 kph (8 knots), lightning, or wave heights in excess of 2 metres. Light rain or overcast conditions will not normally cancel a rental agreement.
